Dear Editor:

I was pleased to read the letter to the editor written by Mark Mayes (Tribune, Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005), which spoke out against the “Happy Holidays” greetings that we hear and see so much of these days.

Very simply, although in the minority, Christmas has been hijacked by the cultural police, politically correct, media bias, intellectual elite, accommodating retailers, American Civil Liberties Union, liberal judges and other non/anti-Christian elements within the society of our country.

All of this in the face of the fact that 84 percent of Americans profess themselves to be of the Christian persuasion and celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day, the birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

So also do we agree with Mr. Mayes that the Christians must show the courage of our convictions and in a “loving way” speak out against those who would denigrate Christ and Christmas.
